ergative and covenant Word demands obedience to the Torah, its commandments, festivals, kosher, circumcision and purity laws, to traditional ways, all beneficent, all seeking to preserve, to edify rather than destroy, just as the New Scriptures abrogate the Old seeking to preserve and unite all, Jew and Gentile, beneath God’s spheric, sublimated love.
Just as the living waters seek to preserve life, so does the Law endeavour to preserve order when Israel roams the arid deserts of existence towards its promised liberty. The beloved Torah is Israel’s Spiritual Waters. Satiating their angst, it guides, it celebrates, and it cleanses all impurities. The Torah is Judaism’s salvation, just as in times to come, Hope, Faith and Charity shall emblemize Christianity’s salvation beginning with baptism. And just as Yahweh maintains the Law and history within bounds, so, too, He binds the proud sea, its swelling waves;136 so, too, He binds Christianity to faith and to love and to forgiveness in Christ in St. Paul’s grace-filled theology. Just as Yahweh’s omnific Word is sovereign over the waters and over chaos, taming Behemoth and Leviathan, His Word — sovereign over all trials, blessings and events, spiritual and material — is omnipresent in chaos’ dart as in the naos’ heart: the Holy of Holies of His indwelling presence entered by all following the rending of the veil. His Divine Word is and has Being: it admonishes. It punishes. Yet it reveals. It consoles. It comforts. And in the quotidian vicissitudes, it sustains in its misericordy.
