   2021 CGSA/Toro Assistant Super- intendent of the Year winner: Paul Davey, Senior Assistant Super- intendent at the Cordova Bay Golf Course
Paul is well-known as a hands-on,
hardworking assistant whose leadership skills have played a large part in the success of Cordova Bay Golf Course, known as one of the best golf courses in British Columbia. Paul is known to his colleagues as a true professional, incredible team leader and great mentor. He is calm and patient, shares his expertise, and is always making time to help others with a smile on his face. He has also been an active volunteer within the community by volunteering on the VIGSA fundraising committee for Multiple Sclerosis as well as joining the Boy Scouts of Canada as a leader in Victoria.
Paul has been a CGSA member since 2005 and has worked for Cordova Bay since February of 2005, currently in the position of Senior Assistant Superintendent. Paul grew up in a farming community, always worked outside, and ended up at a ski hill in Kananaskis. He fell in love with the area, so he applied at the golf course and ended up working there for three seasons and then he made the decision to go to Olds College.

Paul graduated from Olds in 2003 with a GPA of 3.89 and made the Dean’s Honour Roll. Prior to Cordova Bay, Paul worked at Avondale Golf Course in Prince Edward Island and Kananaskis Country Club in Alberta. Dean Piller, AGS, Superintendent at Cordova Bay Golf Course nominated Paul for this award and said, “The value he brings to our organization is immeasurable as his contribution to our success goes far beyond his day-to-day activities. He is the calming force that keeps the atmosphere in our workplace focused, calm and productive.”
Brian Youell, Master Superintendent at Uplands Golf Club, wrote in a letter of recommendation in support of Paul’s nomination, “I have known Paul for over 20 years. When Paul came to our region as the Assistant Superintendent at Cordova Bay Golf Course, it became very apparent what a kind and hardworking individual he is. Paul has given his time freely for so many years helping others, and always with a smile. Since the inception of our fundraising efforts for Multiple Sclerosis, Paul has helped us raise over $1.4 million for those suffering with MS for the past 15 years. That’s commitment!
Cordova Bay Golf Course is noted as one of the best conditioned golf courses in British Columbia, and Paul’s leadership is a big part of this success. Paul has been a great mentor for so many people coming into our industry, and
