Canada’s best were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements to the
Canadian Golf Industry. Winners were celebrated as innovators, high achievers and mentors who dedicate their time to the industry. Recipients received their awards ahead of time due to the virtual nature of the presentations and they were recognized at awards ceremonies during the conference.

Marie Thorne is CGSA’s first female John B. Steel Distinguished Service Award recipient. She is a well-known leader and mentor in the Canadian turfgrass industry who shared her expertise and knowledge frequently along with delivering exceptional customer service as a Senior Turf Specialist. Marie was recognized at The Canadian by the CGSA President, John Scott, AGS and acknowledged by all her peers across the country.
Celebrating
High Achievers
As the CGSA/Bayer Superintendent of the Year for 2021, Chris Dew, AGS, The National was celebrated during the Canadian. Special remarks were brought by his long- time colleague and friend Grant Murphy. CGSA President John Scott, AGS said, “Chris has set the bar high for all superintendents in Canada. He manages one of the top courses in the country and provides superior playing condi- tions on a consistent basis.” Bayer’s Ryan Beauchamp recognized Chris as a personal friend and industry mentor to all, a true professional. Chris has been a CGSA member since 1995 and holds the Accredited Golf Superintendent designation.
Kevin Hennigar, the CGSA/Foley Company Equipment Technician of the Year was recognized for all he represents in his profession. “His leadership and management skills along with problem solving skills, his proactive approach and willingness to help and educate other equipment technicians is a testa- ment that he is very deserving of this award,” said John Scott, AGS, CGSA President.
