One piece of advice Paul adds, “Explore Canada, it is a great place from coast to coast and has many beautiful places and hidden gems. The people are amazing wherever you go.”
Above all, Paul’s wife Leanne and two girls, Ella, 12 and Ava, 9 are the joys and loves of his life! And he finished off by saying, “Thank you to the CGSA and Toro for all they do for the industry.”
As the CGSA/Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year winner, Paul was presented with the CGSA/ Toro Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award during the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. His award included an “All- Access” registration toThe Canadian 2022 Virtual Golf Course Management Conference; A Toro gift pack (valued at $500); an invitation to attend The Toro Experience for Assistant Superintendents, an exclusive event hosted at The Toro Company Headquarters in Bloomington MN; including round- trip airfare and accommodations during the event.

many of his former staff members have gone on to be Assistants and Superintendents. He has always represented our industry as a true professional, always making time to help others, serving his course, and helping in his community.”
When asked who some of his mentors and biggest influencers were, Paul automatically recognized his current boss Dean Piller, AGS. “I have learned so much from him. I first met Dean when I was going to Olds College and loved his enthusiasm for everything he did. He has shown me many different ways of thinking and has given me lots of great ideas. He introduced me to so many excellent
people over the years that I consider great friends.”
Davey continued, “In the VancouverIslandGolfSuperintendents Association there are a great number of individuals I look up to and who have helped me get to where I am today. Associations and conferences are a great way to network and gain many friendships and get great ideas to help you in your career and life. Don’t be scared to try something new. Try it out, go work at a course for the summer especially if you like being outdoors. So many people have told me it was the best summer job they had. The comradery in the industry is great and you will meet so many awesome people.”
