Primary 6 Contents (LOMCE)
The English as a Foreign Language curriculum for the 6th course of Primary (as stated by Decree 89/2014, of 24th July) is organised around four blocks of contents:
Block 1: Listening Comprehension
Block 2: Oral Production: expression and interaction Block 3: Reading Comprehension
Block 4: Written Production: expression and interaction
These four main blocks are the basis for the evaluation criteria and gradable learning standards as well as the syllabus contents, in other words all the knowledge, abilities, competences and attitudes which contribute to reaching the objectives and acquiring competences.
Block 1. Listening Comprehension
1. Written comprehension strategies:
- Mobilization of expectations, identification of cues and inferences, hypothesis testing
and reformulation.
- Text identification and its comprehension.
- Distinguishing types of comprehension (gist, essential information, main points).
- Making hypotheses about contents and context.
- Inference and making hypotheses about meaning using comprehension of the main
points, both linguistic and paralinguistic.
- Revising hypothesis using newly understood points.
