MARCEL LACHEMANN to the general manager
Marcel Lachemann enters his 53rd season in baseball and seventh as a
special assistant to the general manager after rejoining the Club prior to the
2012 campaign. Lachemann was the Club’s pitching coach from 1984-92 &
1997-98 and spent two-plus seasons as manager (1994-96).
Prior to rejoining the Angels, Marcel worked in the Colorado Rockies
organization, including eight seasons (2004-2011) as a special assistant to the
GM. He was also the Rockies Pitching Coach from 2000-01.
The Los Angeles native began his coaching career with the Montreal Expos
(1973-75), and then worked as an assistant coach at his alma mater, University of Southern California,
before joining the Angels in 1982. He served as pitching coach with the Halos until 1993 when he was

named pitching coach of the newly formed Florida Marlins where his brother Rene was managing. In
1994, Lachemann came back to the Angels, replacing Buck Rodgers as manager. Lachemann held the
Halos’ managerial post until resigning in August 1996 and returned as Angels Pitching Coach under
Manager Terry Collins from 1997-98.
Lachemann lettered at USC as a pitcher from 1960-62, helping the Trojans to the 1961 College
World Series title. He pitched in parts of three seasons with Oakland (1969-71), going 7-4 with a 3.44
ERA in 70 appearances. Additionally, Lachemann has been with USA Baseball since 1999, serving as
pitching coach on the 2006, 2009 and 2013 World Baseball Classic teams. During the 2013 offseason,
Lachemann was named Team USA’s bullpen and co-pitching Coach for the 2013 World Baseball Classic
by manager Joe Torre. The former Halo manager teamed up with four-time Cy Young Award winner
Greg Maddux to handle the Team USA pitching staff.
His brother Bill is the Angels Special Assignment Catching Coordinator. Marcel and his wife, Sue,
live in Nipomo, CA.
ANDREW BALL director, baseball operations
Andrew Ball, 31, enters his fourth season with the Angels in 2020 as Director
of Baseball Operations. In his role, Ball is involved in all areas of baseball
operations with a focus on Major League roster management, player contracts,
player procurement and salary arbitration.
Ball came to the Angels after three seasons in the Baseball Operations
Department of the Tampa Bay Rays. Initially hired as an Advance Scouting
Intern, he was promoted to Baseball Operations Assistant in October of 2014
and to Assistant Director, Pro Scouting in September of 2016. Prior to that,
Ball got his start in baseball operations with the York Revolution, an independent team in the Atlantic
League. During his tenure, York captured the 2011 Atlantic League Championship and saw 14 players
signed by affiliated organizations.
A native of Orwigsburg, PA, Ball attended Gwynedd-Mercy College where he graduated with a
business degree and pitched for the Griffins’ baseball team. He currently resides in Newport Beach.
