You Can Change a Life Through Dental Lifeline Network • New York

Bertha, 59, lives in Maspeth and experiences mental and physical health
challenges. She has bipolar disorder, osteoarthritis and compromised liver
function. Shock treatments from her bipolar disorder contributed to grinding
her teeth and led to severe dental issues including several decayed teeth.
This caused abscesses that resulted in hospitalization. Bertha’s oral health
posed a risk to her overall well-being and her doctor urged her to get help.
Unfortunately, Bertha could not afford the needed dental treatment. A clerical
employee for 35 years, she now relies on food stamps and a small Social
Security Disability benefit to make ends meet, and dental treatment seemed
out of her reach.

Bertha was referred to the Donated Dental Services (DDS) program and
two generous volunteers came to her aid: Dr. Robert M. Trager extracted three
teeth, restored another, and donated a full upper denture and partial lower
denture. Magna Studio Laboratory fabricated the dentures.
