Chapter One: Introduction
Background
RESEARCH PROJECT
The transformation of the health care sector towards patient-centered care empha-
sizes the importance of patients' active participation in their health care decisions
and treatment processes to achieve improved health outcomes (Carman et al.,
2013).
In this context, physiotherapy plays an essential role in the rehabilitation and man-
agement of sports-related injuries, relying on evidence-based techniques and the
active participation of patients for success (Papaioannou et al., 2019).
Patient participation does not only increase treatment outcomes, but is also a deter-
mining factorQuality of health care through improving patient satisfaction
(Ferguson, 2009).
By identifying and eliminating the deficiencies in the course of physiotherapy treat-
ment, the aim of this research is to optimize the continuity of patient care. Important-
ly, bridging the information gap for physiotherapy patients and ensuring that they are
well informed is critical to empowering them to actively participate in their treatment
process (Hibbard et al., 2005).
