Personally, the summer of odd number years always heighten my anticipation for attending the Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated conference I favor most: the Leadership Seminar. The 2015
Leadership Seminar offered the opportunity to participate in the First National Certification of the
Chapter Basileus: Building World Class Leaders, One By One. The course extended over a day and a
half and each participant received one hour college credit from Chicago State University. The course
was intense!
The Chapter Basileus Certification class Chapter Basileus Certification Class Participants from Huntsville/Madison.

The course modules included chapter Submitted by: Soror Wilma Ruffin
operations/parliamentary
procedures/governing documents, officer
requirements, membership, rituals,
constitution and bylaws, financial
fundamentals, technology, leadership
development, protocol, emotional
intelligence and motivational principles.
The class consisted of 580 new, aspiring
and continuing chapter Basilei.
The course concluded with graduation, to include the music Pomp and Circumstance, the conferring
of certificates of completion, a world renowned motivational speaker, Mr. Simon T. Bailey, and
congratulatory remarks from the Supreme Basileus, Soror Dorothy Buchanan Wilson.
Knowing effective leaders are crucial to the ongoing sustainability of our sisterhood at all levels, it is
incumbent of me to ensure that I am prepared and equipped as an effective leader. This course
provided the information and tools I need to enhance my quest for servant leadership in Alpha Kappa
Alpha. Thank you Epsilon Gamma Omega Chapter members for your support and encouragement
as your Basileus.
