PROGRAM FOCUS
Now that we have completed our first six months of Launching New Dimensions of Service in AKA,
it is time for us to reflect on where we are and where we want to be for the second half of the year!
Thank you my Sorors for an awesome beginning in the implementation of our five Targets, as well as
our local programs such as RIF and AKA Girl of the Month! It is because of you that programs "Rock"
in EGO!
Sorors, you will soon have an opportunity to share your ideas and give meaningful input in the process.
Please be on the lookout for the first six months assessment of our implementation of programs survey
in the EGO update. Also, coming soon is an online reporting form to record your community service
hours thanks to Soror Lorraine Lacy. We will continue to seek ways to protect the environment and
make things run more efficiently for everyone.
One of the highlights of the summer for me was being able to attend my first Leadership Conference
in the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois. According to our vivacious Supreme Basileus, Dorothy
Buckhanan Wilson, this year's conference was the first to have over 5,000 members in attendance!
The workshops were very informative and well attended. I can't wait to share the many things I learned
with everyone.
As Anti-Basileus/Program Chairman, I came away feeling good about where we are with our
programs! I also came away with a lot of new ideas, as well as clarification regarding the new
programs. It was a great conference and I had a great time seeing my Sorors and the sights and places
around the city. Being able to tour our Corporate Office was the best part of the trip! As members of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, we have such a rich heritage and so much to be proud
of! Our founders set the bar high and it is our responsibility to keep it there!
Finally, I want to encourage everyone to rest, relax and enjoy your summer break! I am looking
forward to seeing each of you in September, ready to give your time and talent in helping to keep
programs moving! Don’t forget the EGO updates about all the upcoming events! Programming is the
heart of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
