Under private teachers, he learned to read and write the picture language of the Egyptians. He studied arithme­ tic and learned how to survey the land. He learned the re­ ligious beliefs of the Egyptians, a n d came to know the di erent classes of Egyptian society.

Though Moses lived like a prince, he never forgot

his mother and other relatives. He loved his own peo­ ple, the Israelites, and it pained him to see how harshly they were treated.
One day when Moses had grown to manhood, he was walking in the neighborhood of the palace. A number of Israelites were hard at work under an Egyptian overseer. The overseer became angry at one of the Israelites and began to mistreat him cruelly. When Moses saw this, he was  lled with rage and killed the Egyptian. When the news reached Pharao, he ordered that Moses should be put to death. But Moses escaped
