let the people depart. Pharao refused, and a fourth plague, of ies, was sent upon all the land of Egypt, excepting Gessen, where the Israelites lived.
Pharao called Moses and Aaron and said, ''Go, and sacri ce to thy God here in this land." "It cannot be so,'' answered Moses, ''for if we kill the animals which the Egyptians worship, they will stone us.'' Pharao said, ''Go out into the wilderness and worship, but go no farther.'' Moses prayed and the plague of ies was taken from Pharao and his people. Again Pharao had deceived Moses. He ·would not let the people go.
So Moses came to Pharao again and told him that, unless he would let the Israelites leave Egypt, all the camels, oxen, horses, and sheep in the whole land, cept those in Gessen, would be a icted -with disease and death. Pharao was lled with bitterness and he refused again. All the animals of the Egyptians died, but those of the Israelites were unharmed. Yet Pharao would not let the Israelites leave.
Therefore God punished him and his people still more. All the people and all the animals were stricken with boils. The plague spread over all the land, and the su ering was very great. But Pharao would not obey the word of the Lord.
Moses went before Pharao and threatened a plague of hail if he did not yield to God's will. Once more Pharao refused, and a great hailstorm, with thunder and lightning, swept over the land, beating down the crops and destroying the houses. Only the land of Gessen was saved.
