This was the one time of the year in which he was permitted to enter the Holy of Holies. When the people were assembled in the morning, he sacri­ ced a calf. He entered the Holy of Holies, o ered incense, and sprinkled the Mercy Seat seven times with the blood of the calf. This sprinkling of blood was to satisfy for his sins and the sins of the priests.
