The third tempt tion
344 CH ST PREPARES TO REDEEM THE WORLD
set Him upon the pinnacle of the Temple and said to Him, ''If Thou be the Son of God, cast Thyself down, for it is written that He hath given His angels charge over Thee, and in their hands they shall bear Thee up, lest perhaps Thou dash Thy foot against a stone.'' But Jesus answered, ''Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.''
The devil took Jesus up into a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them, and said to Him, "All these will I give Thee if, falling down, Thou wilt adore me.'' Then Jesus said to Satan, ''Begone, Satan, for it is written: 'The Lord thy God shalt thou adore, and Him only shalt thou serve.''' Then the devil left Him, and angels came and took care of Him.

When Jesus left the desert after His fast of forty days, he went back to the Jordan, where John was still baptizing. When John saw Jesus coming toward Him, he cried out, "Behold the Lamb of God, behold Him Who taketh away the sin of the world.''
The next day John was standing on the banks of the river with two of his disciples, or followers, and again Jesus passed by. Pointing to Him, John said, ''BeĀ hold the Lamb of God.'' The two disciples left John and started to follow after Jesus. Jesus turned and said to them, ''Whom seek ye7'' They answered, "Master, where dwellest Thou 7" Jesus replied, "Come and see."
