city and place whither our Lord Himself was to come. Jesus said to them, ''The harvest indeed is great, but the laborers are few. Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that He send laborers into His harvest. Go; behold I send you as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor money, nor shoes. Heal the sick, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.' He that heareth you, heareth Me, and he that despiseth you, despiseth Me. And he that de spiseth Me, despiseth Him that sent Me.''
The rst missionary tour of the seventy-two disci ples lasted one month. They returned to Jesus lled with delight at the success of their work, and told Him all that had happened. They boasted that even the devils were obedient to them. But Jesus said to them, ''Rejoice not in this, that the devils are subject to you. But rejoice in this, that your names are writ ten in Heaven."
5. JESUS PREACHES TO THE PEOPLE
The Son of God became man in order to take upon Himself the sins of the world and to make satisfaction for them to the divine justice by su ering and dying on the cross. But in order that men might pro t by His sacri ce, it was necessary for them to learn how to live a holy life. Otherwise, through ignorance they would fall back into their sins. That is why Jesus spent the three years of His public life preaching to the people and telling them what they would have to do if they wished to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. The people listened to Him and admired His doctrine,
