CHRIST, THE GREAT TEA ER 397
into the boat and the wind ceased. Those that were in the boat came and adored Him, saying, ''Indeed Thou art the Son of God.''
Even after these wonderful things had happened, the disciples did not understand what our Savior meant by the Kingdom of Heaven. They remembered what the prophet Isaias had said about the Messias, "For a Child is born to us, and a Son is given to us, and the government is upon His shoulders, and His name shall be called onderful, Counselor, God the Mighty, the Father of the World to Come, the Prince of Peace. His empire shall be multiplied, and there shall be no end of peace. He shall sit down upon the
throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it, and strengthen it with judgment and with justice from henceforth and forever.''
They were looking for a Messias Whom all the na tions of the world would obey, and Who would bring back the Jews who were scattered all over the world and form them into the greatest nation on earth.
This was the great hope of the Jewish people in the time of our Lord. Jesus knew that they were doomed to disappointment, and He tried to make them under stand that the Messias was not to be an earthly ruler and that His Kingdom was not of this world.
One day He began to talk to His apostles and dis ciples about His passion and death. He told them that He would have to go to Jerusalem, where He would su er many things from the scribes and the chief priests and that He would be put to death, but after three days He would rise again.
