left home the ght before and all of them had been listening to Jesus all day long. So each one of them ate his ll. Then Jesus said to His apostles, "Gather up the fra ents that remain, lest they be lost.'' They gathered up, therefore, and lled twelve baskets with the fragments of the ve barley loaves that were left after all the people had eaten.
When the people saw the great miracle which Jesus had perfo ed, they said, ''This is of a truth the prophet that is come into the world." Knowing that they had it in mind to take Him by force and make Him king, Jesus ed into the mountain, Himself alone.
The apostles got into the boat and started back T across the lake for Capharnaum. It was that night
oflhe that Jesus came to them, walking on the water. The B
people knew that Jesus had not gotten into the boat with His apostles. There was another boat near the shore, and they watched all night to see if Jesus would take it. The next morning they realized that it was useless for them to wait a longer, so they made their
way back to Capharnaum, seeking for Jesus.
There they found Him teaching in the synagogue. They said to Him, "Master, when ea est Thou
hither?" Jesus answered, "Amen, amen, I say to you. You seek Me, not because you have seen mira cles, but because you did eat of the loaves and were lled. Labor not for the meat which perisheth, but for that which endureth unto life everlasting." "What shall we do,'' asked the people, ''that we may work the works of God?'' Jesus answered, ''This is the work of God, that you believe in Him Whom He hath sent.''
