ELIGIBILITY What is ICP Medicaid? (ICP) is a Medicaid
Program
The
Institutional
Care
program that helps people in nursing facilities pay for
FAQ'S the cost of their care plus prov ides general medical
coverage. Eligibility is determined by the Department of
Children and Families or DCF.
What is the income limit for ICP Medicaid?
The income limit changes annually. Currently it is $2,349 for an individual applicant.
What is the asset limit for ICP Medicaid?
The asset limit is $2000 for an individual or $3000 for institutionalized cou ples joi ntly applying.
If the individual or a couple has income at or below 88% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
the asset limit is $5000 for an individual and $6000 for a couple.
Will I lose my home if I apply for Medicaid?
No, your homestead property is exempt and doe s not count against you as an asset as lon g as
the equity in the home does not exceed the current limit of $585,000 tot al equity. How ever, if
your home is sold, the proceeds cou nt against the asset limit abov e.
How much will I have to pay after Medicaid is approved?
In general, all of the patient’s monthly incom e, except for their person al needs allow ance,
must be paid to the nursing facility. The payment to the facility is called the “patient
responsibility”. In some situations, all or part of the patient’s incom e may be diverted for a
spouse or dependents, reducing the monthly amount the individual pays the nursing facility.
How much does Medicaid pay?
Medicaid pays the difference between how much the patient pays (patient respon sibility) and
what the nursing facility charges under Medicaid.
