GASTROCNEMIUS/SOLEUS
• The gastrocnemius originates from just behind both sides of the knee
and inserts onto the Achilles tendon.
Anatomy and • The soleus originates from just below the knee and inserts onto the

knee flexion.
• The soleus is responsible for plantarflexion of the foot.
