                       ILLNESS BY SPEAKING
                       LASHON HARA

aches. In my opinion these are a result of her mental condition, which
she claims was caused by people who treated her unjustly.

The recommended treatment for freeing her of her pains is for her

of slander and tale bearing.

The question thus arises as to whether she is allowed to tell her
daughter the story, which would cure her, even though doing so
involves the prohibitions of slander and tale bearing. It should be
emphasized that it is impossible to conduct a deeply personal conver-
sation when the other person doesn’t actually believe the stories they
are being told.
