Beyond the Misery of Change Management

Commissioner Moore was invited to speak on change management at a recent Department of Revenue
(DOR) Leadership Bootcamp titled Succeeding in the DRIVEr’s Seat (a day focused on the DRIVES
project and all the changes that will come). DOR Deputy Commissioner Chris Carr (pictured below left)
and DOR Director Georgia Steele (pictured below right) hosted the event. They presented the
Commissioner with a personalized tag! Commissioner Moore discussed change management particularly
eight strategies for implementing successful change outlined by Harvard Business School Professor John
P. Kotter. The discussion included:

• Establishing a Sense of Urgency • Empowering Employees for Broad-Based Action
• Creating the Guiding Coalition • Generating Short-Term Wins
• Developing a Vision and Strategy • Consolidating Gains and Producing More Change
• Communicating the Change Vision • Anchoring New Approaches in the Culture
