SPREADING THE WORD

Juenesse Holman, Program Admin Unit Manager of the Regulatory Compliance Division and a
member of the Covington Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., conducted
an outreach on Saturday, May 6th with a group of young men who are participating in the
sorority’s EMBODI program. The EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for
Developing Independence) program is designed to refocus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African-
American males. EMBODI addresses issues related to STEM education, culture, self-efficacy,
leadership, physical and mental health, healthy lifestyles choices, character, ethics,
relationships, college readiness, fiscal management, civic engagement and service learning.
Juenesse spoke with twelve 14 and 15-year-olds about the Georgia Graduated Driver’s License
(GDL) Program and the requirements at each level. The young men were given a gift bag
(pictured) containing an ADAP Manual, Parent Teen Driving Guide, and a Driver’s Manual. They
also received GDEC Driving Training Scholarship and Joshua’s Law information and a Hot Wheels
Car (the most exciting thing in the bag). The group had great participation and the information
was well-received.
