People Elite Squad Safety on the
Forefront of
Technology
Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering Safety Committee
The “Elite Squad” section of every
issue highlights a unit in the faculty
that deserves special attention
for its activities. This time the unit
is the faculty’s Safety Committee.
Thanks to their hard work, our faculty
won the Outstanding Faculty safety
award for the outgoing year. The
committee’s members are: Chair
Assoc. Prof. Leonid Tartakovsky,
Safety Supervisor Shai Ben Natan,
Head of Administration Limor Levi-
Madar, Building Supervisor David
Shalom, Operations and Logistics
Supervisor Adi Ben-Ari, Asst. Prof
Yuri Kligerman, and Assoc. Prof.
Matthew Suss. The committee
members meet eight times a year,
identify safety hazards, decide how
to address them, and methodically
follow up to prevent these issues
from reoccurring.
The Technion began granting the
safety awards (for the outstanding
faculty, laboratory, and employee)
two years ago after a tragic incident
in which a researcher from the
Department of Materials Science
and Engineering was killed. This
year, as mentioned above, our
faculty received the Outstanding
Faculty award. Technion Executive
Vice President Prof. Boaz Golany
congratulated Faculty of Mechanical
Engineering Dean Prof. Oleg
Gendelman and praised the faculty
for its sense of responsibility and
the attention it gives to the issue by
promoting initiatives and projects,
encouraging faculty members and
students to bring forward safety
issues, and seriously addressing
problems that arise.
