P. 41
God has made the eye on purpose that way. He has not only given you
eyelids and eyelashes and an eyebrow, but He has put your eye inside of
a bony socket of security. It is in a little fortress. Even the most
protruding eyes are protected by that bone socket. Usually, if you get
banged in the face, banged in the eye, you get a black eye. But what
really happens is your face takes the beating – your head and your cheek
and your nose. But God has especially protected your eye because it is
so indispensable. He has given you the eyelids and the eyelashes and the
eyebrows and the bony socket, and then add to that the intuitive reflex
action. Even a child will either duck or throw up their arms in protection
if something suddenly attacks their face. That is built in. God has done
that because nothing is more protected then the eye.
Add to that the marvelous lubrication system God has put in the eye.
That eyelid – I do not know how many times it opens and shuts the
whole day long, but there is no friction there. We all would have blisters
on our eyeballs if there were friction. But God has given us mucus to
solve that problem. I have a friend in Maryland that is lacking this
lubrication. He has to put special drops in his eyes every couple of hours
and it is a tedious thing for him. But God has done that for the eye. You
have your eyelids and your eyelashes and the eyebrow and the bony
socket, reflex action and the lubrication.
And then, the blessing of tears. What a precious thing God has done for
the eye to wash out the dust and to wash out the alien particles that might
get into the eye. When God created the eye He had planned to protect it
that way, because one day He wanted to tell you, He wanted to tell me,
that you are like the pupil of His eye. You talk about protection! You
could not be more protected. You are the apple of God’s eye, and he
who touches you touches the apple of God’s eye. Nothing is more
valuable than the eye. God has given our family a wonderful blessing
giving us a deaf son. It is amazing how his eyes have taken over with his
hearing gone. One day our son John was loading up the car, and you
know how they have a rack on the top? He pulled that bungee cord and
it let loose on the other side and it came across and hit him right in the
eye. How we prayed that God would spare his eye. They said that the
infection could actually go to both eyes and then he would be blind and
deaf.
Do you consider your eye precious? You are God’s eye! You are the
