Glance please at verse 10,
“Trying to learn what’s pleasing to the Lord.” KJV has,
“Proving what is pleasing to the Lord.”
“Proving” is a strong word in the Greek. It means “to put to the
test, and to check out all the specifications”. It’s a lot stronger
than we generally think. It actually has a positive, and a negative
connotation. It approves God’s will positively, while rejecting
man’s will, negatively.
A heart set on one goal. Pleasing the Lord. My heart is set on
His satisfaction.”
Sometimes we seek the will of the Lord in order to touch other
people’s lives. 5:10,
“Trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord”.
We are not to go after the will of the Lord because of what it will
mean to others. Sometimes we go after God’s will, because it will
bring joy and satisfaction to our own lives. We are not to go after
the will of God because of the joy and satisfaction it brings to our
hearts. We are to go after the will of God, only because, it is the
will of God, to go after the will of God. Because, it pleases Him!
And for no other reason. If it brings pain and bitterness to your
life……….you still go.
Sometimes we think we’d be happier if we were more involved in
ministry. Teaching, or preaching, in some public platform.
Brothers and sisters, the goal is not your happiness. Sometimes,
to crucify that self-centered desire, He sweeps away the
opportunity, and disappoints your worldly aspirations. He actually
sabotages ministries that would satisfy your “need to serve”, and
not, His good pleasure. The Greek word describes a child of light
as, “One who never really desires anything, never refuses
anything, but is constantly open. Without any reservations.
Everything he ever wants, is what God wants.” “All I want, is what
