Inpatient Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Guidance
OPTION B: PPE Sequence for Inpatient Care using N95 Respirators with Eye
Protection
BEFORE ENTERING the patient room
1. Perform hand hygiene.
2. Put on a fit-tested N95
respirator.
3. Put on gloves.
4. Put on fluid resistant gown 1
with thumb loops (e.g., yellow Fluid Shield 5
gown).
5. Put on eye protection (e.g.,
disposable fluid shield or

6. Put on second pair of gloves.
BEFORE LEAVING the patient room
1. Take off gown along with top
gloves.
2. Close door as you leave the
patient's room.

AFTER LEAVING the patient room
1. Perform hand hygiene with
alcohol based hand sanitizer.
2. Remove eye protection.
3. Perform hand hygiene with Fluid Shield
alcohol based hand sanitizer. 2
4. Remove N95 respirator.
