Setting SMART Goals for FY20
With a new fiscal year comes new goals to strive for. Setting these goals though can be a challenge by
itself. One way to make the process easier, without setting yourself up for failure at the end of the year,
is through the SMART acronym to ensures your goals are attainable. SMART stands for Specific,
Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. Specific: In order for a goal to be effective, it
needs to be specific. Measurable: Quantifying your goals makes it much easier to track progress and
know when you’ve reached the finish line. Achievable: Goals should be empowering — not high
pedestals from which you eventually tumble. Relevant: There should be a real benefit attached to
actually reaching that target. Time-Bound: Goals can’t stretch into infinity – they need a deadline.
The deadline for setting FY20 goals is August 31.
Battling Homelessness
Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins
Bayview Medical Center, along with 8 other
hospitals, are collaborating with the city of
Baltimore on a two-year pilot to help battle
homelessness. The goal of this pilot is to
demonstrate that a holistic approach keeps
people healthy, productive, and in
permanent houses. Leaders hope that the
anticipated reduction in healthcare spending
over time will help to show that the program
is sustainable.
