SNUG AND HAPPY CHILDREN
Nestled between the Fives court and the Medical Centre, just underneath the school clock, you will find a wonderful new room within the school.The Snug is a culmination of ideas and steps taken by the school to enhance wellbeing.
The school introduced a listening service a while ago now; a place for children to come and talk to a teacher who is there purely to listen; to hear whatever the child feels they need or want to talk about. Of course, all staff are available to listen.Tutors and class teachers do a lot of listening on a daily basis and remain an important source of listening and support for their tutees.
However, children often want more time and space than is available in a classroom and, occasionally, they would like an opportunity to talk privately about personal matters. Sometimes, just the space to talk things through and mull things over with someone listening is enough to help a child to move on and enjoy the rest of the day. No worry is too small or too big to bring to The Snug and children are encouraged to share what is on their minds. After all, if a child is preoccupied with anxious thoughts they will not be in a good place to learn.
As the Listening Service has become more popular and appointments have become booked up, additional members of staff have expressed an interest
in becoming a part of the listening service and over the course of the
last academic year we have become a listening team of 15 offering appointments at various times of every day.A child can now choose
who they would like to make an appointment with and there is a listener available every morning and afternoon break.
The Snug is the home of the Listening Service where many of the appointments take place.When you enterThe Snug the hope is that you will feel at home, relaxed, welcomed and able to just be, however you are feeling; and that you will find a calm space and a sense of peace and acceptance.
It’s comfy and cosy and calm. You can settle down with soft beanbags and
furry sofas.
