                24 | FRIENDS AND CHARITY
A HELPING HAND
St Andrew’s Prep has maintained its close relationships with the community outside of our school gate.We have helped where we can and continue to educate our pupils about issues faced close to home and around the globe. We want the children to know how they can make a difference.
Our fundraising record is superb and we are proud of the pupils who led a number of activities to raise money for charities this year.We are also very grateful to our parents; for their commitment, time and support to help raise money for the school and charities.
Our thanks too, to the marvellous Friends of St Andrew’s, brilliantly led by Eli Kashani. They have kept spirits high amongst the parental body and provided some wonderful events for our pupils and parents alike, virtually and on-site.
Ellie Kashani, Chair of the Friends writes:
It has been a difficult year for us all, but the wider St Andrew’s Prep community came together time and time again to support one another. Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, children and staff for supporting our virtual events and to everyone on the Friends of St Andrew’s committee for making them possible.
The Friends events have raised funds not only for our beloved school but a cheque for £2,580 is en route to The Brian Tumour Charity, a charity very close to our hearts and a most worthy cause.
We kicked off the year with our very first Friends of St Andrew’s Virtual Quiz Night which was great fun and a brilliant way to stay connected during lockdown.
The Family Bingo night blew us away with a lot of laughter and a competitive edge! There were a few happy winners who received fun prizes.
The Friends of St Andrew’s calendar photo competition was a great success. A ton of amazing entries from the children culminated in a professional scenic Sussex calendar which sold out quickly and now adorns the walls of many Androvian households.
With all restaurants closed due to lockdown, it became clear that the cooking talents of many amongst us had enhanced, so we put together our own Androvian Kitchen Cookbook, with delicious recipes provided by the whole school community.
The winter lockdown saw another fantastic brain teasing Family Quiz Night which was very popular with parents and children. We are very grateful to Deputy Head, Mr Shouksmith, who hosted the event.
By March, with the pandemic wearing us down, we needed some laughter so hosted a virtual Comedy Night which had us all in stiches and the added benefit of raising some additional money for the Brian Tumour Charity.
The Leavers’ Ball saw the Durlacher gym transformed into an enchanted forest fit for a Mad Hatter’sTea Party. The children inYear 8,and their teachers, had a wonderful evening.Thank you to all the parents who worked so hard to organise this stunning event.
