There is no school furniture, work, or set books; no growth mind-set posters or industry scores. Instead there are soft cushions, velvet sofas, herbal scents, simple toys and vehicles for expression for children from the very young through to the teenagers at the top of our school. The children themselves can feel a sense of control as they find a way of exploring their feelings and expressing themselves through talk, art, pictures or play, or just to be quiet for a few minutes before going back to the busier atmosphere of their classrooms.
As the Covid restrictions continue to be lifted The Snug will be used for groups of children as well as for individuals, for discussion and reflection, and is perfectly situated with direct access to the playground with a potential for it to become a sanctuary from the business of a hectic playtime.
It is early days but first impressions from the children are very positive. They have enjoyed the time spent there and have engaged really positively with the setting.
I am delighted with the way The Snug has been welcomed into the St Andrew’s community by children and staff alike and I am excited to see how it will continue to grow and be used in different ways as the year unfolds.
