because it can strengthen muscles and it’s a great thing to do if you are upset or angry about something.
A big thank you to Mrs Radley, Mr Cousins, Mrs Adams and Mrs Shouksmith for inspiring me and teaching us so many things in my time at St Andrew’s.
SPORT BY TOM HOSKINSON
Sport at St Andrew’s has always been a highlight for
me during my time at the school. Pupils are given many opportunities to represent the school in matches and to compete against their peers.
My confidence in sport has improved significantly during my time at the school. When I joined I was more focused on just making it to the end of the track without falling over; but now I am always aiming to win and push myself to perform to the best of my ability.
One of my favourite events that we enjoy at St Andrew’s is Sports Day.The sports staff work hard to organise it so that all the children get to be involved and to compete in the fun and exciting atmosphere out on the field. House sporting events are also great fun because it is quite competitive between the Houses but there is still a friendly feel to the match that you’re playing.
At St Andrew’s there is a huge variety of sports that we can play including the more traditional sports like hockey, rugby or cricket and more obscure sports like shooting and fives. I would never have thought that I would be able to sample these sports at such a young age. My favourite sports that I have done at St Andrew’s include football and hockey because of the high the standard and how everyone tries their hardest. I also love it when the 1st teams goes to IAPS competitions to compete at the very top level.
All in all I feel that it has been sport at St Andrew’s that has really brought my time at the school to life.
TRIPS BY BERTIE KANE
During my time at St Andrew’s I’ve been given the opportunity to go on many school trips.
Some moments will always stick with me such as singing the national anthem on the babies’ section of Thorpe Park whilst gripping on to my friends.
Sadly, this year, the Year 8 trip to Devon had to be cancelled due to COVID but the teachers managed to organise
some great challenges more locally instead, to create great
memories. Often it is the coach journeys that provide the best moments: two hours of the boys chanting and singing at the tops of our voices and laughing our heads off. However, some of the challenges that week were my worst nightmare as they left me either hanging high in a tree or crying for help but we had the thrill of super-fast rides!
Another school trip highlight at St Andrew’s was the Year 6 trip to France. I know the current Year 7s have not been able to go yet (because of the thing we shouldn’t mention!) but we were lucky and everyone had a great experience, staying away from our parents and being more independent.
As well as learning great life skills we also learnt lots
of things not to do such as downing a massive bottle of smoothie in a rush. The culprit was encouraged not to do it but he ignored that advice and suffered the consequences by being very sick later! Or buying French food from a French supermarket without translating the wrapper, so instead of getting my parents a lovely memento of my trip, they received some cooking chocolate complete with instructions in French.
Overall St Andrew’s has given me opportunities that I might not have had otherwise and I have learnt great skills for the future.Thank you St Andrew’s.
FRIENDSHIP BY POPPY CAMPION
Friendship at St Andrew’s is pure and, over the past year,
l think that we have all come to realise how much we appreciate each other’s company. For most of us, friendship is something that we would struggle to live without. Friendships have ups and downs, but l have found that in the good times at this school, my friendships have been stronger than ever.
Friendship isn’t about who you have known the longest, it’s about who walked in to your life and said,“I’m here for you...” and proved it.
I am proud of our school spirit and l am proud of the atmosphere everywhere. Out of all the schools I have been to, St Andrew’s has had the most exciting, encouraging, confident and enthusiastic attitude towards many things, in all year groups.
We have all had chances to express our kindness, generosity, selflessness and many other St Andrew’s qualities.
Ultimately, l just want to say that l think l am lucky to be leaving this school with so many good friends and treasured memories.
Never take your friends for granted; who knows what is round the corner.
