                42 | YEAR 8 LEAVERS BALL
HAVING A BALL
The theme of theYear 8 Leavers’ Ball is always top secret. The parents ofYear 8 pupils get together and form a committee and have secret meetings over endless cups of tea, coffee and wine, sub-committees are formed, and suddenly, the plan is in action: organising the menu, decorations, entertainment and all the finer details.
This year’s meetings were virtual and decisions a little uncertain but one thing that was not in doubt was the commitment to make sure that all the children had a party they would never forget, a ball that would echo their fantastic journey through St Andrew’s Prep.
The theme this year was ‘The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in the Enchanted Gardens’ and the Durlacher gym was transformed into an enchanted garden. The children’s faces were priceless
as they walked through the sparkling
tunnel of ivy and entered the ‘garden’ with weird and wonderful decorations and UV lighting. The eerie music added to the atmosphere and the fabulous display of LED hula-hooping and juggling on unicycles around the trees in the Durlacher brought the room to life.
The children and their teachers enjoyed an elegant and delicious three- course meal which was followed by a disco, circus workshop, fun photos in the photo booth with oversized props and lets not forget the flower wall for the essential selfies! When the children were
thirsty, they headed to the mocktail bar for a virgin Mojito or Piña Coladas.
The evening ended with a beautiful live fire show on the Headmaster’s Lawn with a glorious sunset as the backdrop. With time for one final dance, the
class of 2021 ended their journey at St Andrew’s Prep thanking their teachers as they left with their leavers’ gifts.
Well done Class of 2021, and thank you to all the parents who worked so hard to make this evening so special. Ellie Kashani, Chair of the Friends
