The GLS features LED high-performance headlamps that adjust with curves of winding back roads and adapt to oncoming traffic. Behind those headlights, you’ll find a responsive V6 or V8 bi-turbo engine that allows drivers to adjust to driving conditions.
“On dry roads, switch to sport mode, or comfort mode for a slower drive to the cottage,” says Michael. “There’s also a mode for slippery surfaces, which is perfect for summer rain storms.”
Beneath that engine, you’ll
find a powerful 4Matic all- wheel drive (AWD) system
– a powerful tool in any season or road condition. Unlike traditional AWD systems that will provide power to all four wheels at the same time, 4Matic uses sensors to provide an intuitive response.
“If the 4Matic system senses that one of your wheels is losing traction, it will reallocate its power to the wheels that can use it best,” says Michael. “Each wheel operates individually under the control of 4Matic, which gives the driver more confidence under any road conditions.”
The GLS’s 4Matic system
is paired with Airmatic suspension – an innovative suspension system that adapts to changing road conditions and changing cargo loads without affecting driving control or passenger comfort. Although these
systems generally go unnoticed, what drivers
will notice is the commanding, comfortable driving performance
and comfortable drive they provide.
“Then there are the safety features Mercedes-Benz drivers can’t help but notice,” says Michael. “Those are the advanced driver assists.”
Mercedes-Benz’s radar-based Active Brake Assist uses radar and cameras to monitor the speed of the vehicles ahead and uses visual and acoustic warnings to get the driver’s attention. If the driver fails to brake, Active Brake Assist will do so on its own.
Like Active Brake Assist, Active Distance Assist Distronic cruise control
allows you to keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you using cruise control. “If the car in front of you slows down, your vehicle will slow down too.
If you choose to pass them, your vehicle will resume its pre-set speed as soon as the coast is clear.”
