The Messiah: Beyond a Shadow of Doubt

                 Preface

Ideas are frequently evaluated by the way they have evolved or have been lived out
by their followers. It is better, however, to first examine the source of a teaching with a sincere
effort to understand the principles as they were first conceived by their author. When we judge
something by the way it has morphed over time, we risk missing the genius and truth that was
                 originally envisioned.

This is certainly the case with the Jewish holy days, the Lord’s Appointed Times that
were revealed to the people of Israel almost 3,500 years ago. Only a careful examination of
Moses’ original words in light of ancient Israel’s culture can reveal the intended meaning of the
Appointed Times. The observances of these events have changed dramatically throughout the
centuries, but God’s plan, which they reveal, has not.
For reasons that become obvious later in this book, much of the significance of the
Appointed Times has been lost throughout the ages to the extent that their meaning is no longer
recognizable. Even though this appears to be an enormous loss to the Faith, the reason is, no
doubt, Providential in nature. One of the subtle themes that recurs throughout the Scriptures is
that God hides knowledge, but in His mysterious way, He reveals it in His good timing.
As you read this book, you will no doubt encounter ideas and concepts that are new
to you, some that differ from your current understanding, and some that make you a little bit
uncomfortable. But consider this—we are going to examine the evidence from the source in the
same way that an archeologist dusts an artifact and then muses on how it should be woven into
the grand tapestry of a culture and history. In a similar way, we will examine evidence about the
Lord’s Messiah and explore the ultimate mystery of man communing with God Himself.
My purpose in writing about the Messiah is to proclaim the significance of something
that has been before the eyes of mankind for millennia but for some reason has been virtually
unnoticed. God’s Word contains truths that are far deeper than the prose and poetry on its
surface. Truth is buried within like precious treasure, and it is up to us to seek it, muse upon
it, and respond accordingly. My hope is that we can unearth some of these beautiful truths
together through the pages of this book. I am honored that you have chosen to walk with me on
this journey through the Lord’s Appointed Times and revel in the joy of God’s magnificent gift to

                 mankind—His Messiah.
