I am Lawrence Strauss a Veteran and I served at the Veteran's Affairs
Medical Centers in Hampton, Virginia. During my 20-year tenure with the

VA, as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I served in a variety of psychosocial
positions, and in several separate units, providing a plethora of therapeutic and
supportive services to our veterans and their families. This included treatment
for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI),

Crisis Intervention, interviews and assessments, Individual and Group
Therapy, Research, Discharge Planning, and Readjustment Counseling,
            among other modalities.

My work at the VA was both a humbling and rewarding experience, and I was
most honored, and indeed privileged, to assist my fellow veterans and their

significant others. I also proudly served as an Active and Reserve member of
the Army, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

During my 24 and a half years of service, my duties included working as a

therapist, counselor, mentor, administrator and educator. I served during both
the Vietnam and Desert Storm Wars. I was part of a team of medical
professionals who participated in Operation Homecoming readjustment

services for returning U.S. Military (Vietnam) Prisoners of War. Following
Desert Storm 1, I participated in the military-wide Readjustment Project for
returning service members. I produced several audio-visual programs dealing

with a variety of counseling issues.

My volunteer endeavors included working with the USO of Greater Hampton,
serving with the Newport News Police Department Homicide Division, being

a National Disaster Responder (DMH) for the American Red Cross, serving as
a civilian member of the Fluvanna Sheriff's Department, AmeriCorps/VISTA
Volunteer, and Nursing Home Regulation (civilian) Advisory Subcommittee.
I am a graduate of the Newport News and Fluvanna County Civilian

Leadership Programs. I am currently retired, but still active in volunteering
and several other personally rewarding endeavors.
