total investment through financial assistance to ensure participation in all programs among individuals facing financial hardship, in addition to, subsidized programs that fill community voids.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
12,266kids participated in experiences that cultivated values, skills, and relationships that led to positive behaviors, better health, and educational achievement.
Before she enrolled her in our newly launched licensed preschool, Ava’s mom, Ashley Thompson, shared she was having difficulty with Ava’s communication/social/ emotional skills. On day nine, she sent us this email.
“Huge thanks to the preschool staff at YMCA Camp Sierra for making my daughter so happy to attend school daily! She has learned so much in nine days and I am forever grateful for all your hard work with Ava! Thanks to the staff she speaks clearly, is singing and making friends! The preschool and staff exceeded my expectations!
HEALTHY LIVING
19,923 individuals were impacted by Y programs designed to help them improve their health and well-being and connect to new friends.
Scott Nelson and his family have been Bob Sierra Family YMCA members for nearly 38 years. His four sons learned to swim at the Y. Scott started swimming in 2013 after hip replacement surgery from years of running. He is now a local swimming legend who covered over 500 miles last year.
“The Bob Sierra Family YMCA is a community bedrock. It is my happy place after work. A mile in the pool soothes me. I just love coming here!”
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
2,806 children learned life-saving skills through drowning prevention programs while THOUSANDS of neighbors were served in other mission-based programs at little or no cost thanks to charitable contributions.
Nathaniel Roach, 8, was always afraid of the water. His fear stemmed from the anxiety about not being able to touch the bottom of the pool. During the afterschool program, he noticed how much fun his friends had there and wanted to try it.
The first lesson was tough, but with patience/gentle encouragement, he started making progress. Now, he enjoys the pool and is a young advocate for water safety, reminding his friends that they, too, can overcome their fears with a little courage and a lot of practice.
