How many chords are there??
When we mention the guitar, there are about 500 + named chords,
(and possibly even more!!) but many of these are replicated in
different positions on the guitar fretboard and there’s a strong
possibility that you won’t even need to know them all.
Even though, the chord of open A major for example,
(which we will start learning at the beginning of lessons),
has approximately 10 other positions throughout the neck and many
of them are completely different fingering shapes altogether.
Just to confuse you!
Calculate all the rest of the chords:
B, C, D, E, F,G and variants
ie: A7th, B7th’s, Majors, minors, sus, sus4th, augmented,
sharps and flats etc; and as you can imagine there are about
10,000’s of chord shapes!
In your lifetime, you’ll probably be even learning chord shapes that
you didn’t even know before!!!
It literally is a non-stop process.!!
Even professional guitarists are always adapting and learning new
shapes and sharing in the community!!
But don’t worry about this for now though.
Over the next few pages with help from your tutor
we’ll be start learning basic shapes to get you
started and on your way.
