In further talks with Ken and Cathy while we were in Uganda, the realization came that for many
children in the home who had known birth relatives, providing one time funding for a small income
generating project and some of the basic necessities for the child, enabled the family to take the child
permanently back into their care. Ken and Cathy have long worked to reunify children whenever it was
possible, but finding funding to help families get over some of the final financial hurdles and back on
their feet has been an ongoing challenge for them.
So last month, thanks to funds from LWB, Judah was
able to leave the home and go to live with his paternal grandparents. (photo at left: Judah father,
Tenderhearts social worker Peace, Judah’s favorite Nanny Patricia and Cathy) They were provided with
some supplies for Judah, (at right, Judah’s grandparents receiving him into their home) as well the
equipment needed to start raising baby chicks, a project that will help generate funds each month and
provide some needed extra income for his family.
We have pledged support for several more reunifications, including Ella’s (at left, with her Father who
has very faithfully visited her while she has been in the home) and Shawn’s (at right, who will go to live
with his maternal aunt), and we hope to expand this program in the months to come.
