Part B: Information on the Installation Date Aug 2019
B.3.0 DESCRIPTION OF PROCESS
A description of the process or storage involving the hazardous substances
and an indication of the conditions under which it is normally held;
The plant is situated about two (2) km from Segamat town. The plant is designed to
supply 45 MLD (KT1: 13.1 MLD, KT2: 31.36 MLD) of treated water to industrial and
residential areas particularly within Segamat.
The KT1 & KT2 WTP receives raw water intake from Segamat River. The following
Table B.3.0 summarizes the main elements of the water treatment process and their
functions:
Process Function
Pre-Chlorine Biological Control
Aeration Manganese and Iron Release
Coagulant Chemical Dosage:
- Hydrated Lime Coagulation pH Control
- Aluminum Sulphate Coagulant
- Polyelectrolyte Coagulation
Flocculation Flock Formation
Sedimentation Tank Flock, Colloid Color and Organism Sedimentation
Filtration Filtration
Post Chlorine Disinfection
Fluoridation Teeth and Bone Control
Neutralization pH Control
Table B.3.0: Main Elements of Water Treatment Process
The three main activities conducted at the KT1 & KT2 WTP works are:
• Water treatment process;
• Storage of chemicals used for facilitating the process; and
• Operation of utility systems or facilitating the process.
All the chemicals are stored and prepared at the chemical building before being
delivered to the points of dosing while chlorine is withdrawn from the drums (KT2
WTP) and cylinders (KT1 WTP) which is stored in the Chlorine room.
Generic process diagram of water treatment process is provided in Appendix B1.
