pressure, equivalent to its vapor pressure at the temperature of the contents inside
the container. For instance, at a temperature of 30°C, the pressure of the chlorine
inside the container is about 6.0 bar.
B.3.2 Chlorination Process
Kampung Tengah 1 Water Treatment Plant
Liquid chlorine is withdrawn from the containers, vaporized to gas, reduced to a
vacuum in the vacuum regulator, metered and controlled in the chlorinator, mixed
with service water in the ejector and fed into the process as a solution.
Figure B.3.2a: KT1 WTP Chlorine Bank
Chlorine cylinders are arranged in two (2) rows of three (3) cylinders each. Each row
consists of three (3) cylinders which is individually connected to a manifold using
flexible copper tubing and manual isolating valve at the manifold. Chlorine gas is
withdrawn from one row while the other row is on standby mode. The liquid
withdrawal is controlled by a manual changeover system, valves and pressure switch
control. The controller is designed to allow only one-line bank to be open at a time.
When the line bank is empty a decreasing pressure initiates pressure switch which
will trigger the alarm. The switching over pressure is set at 1 bar.
Chlorine gas is fed to the Pre-Chlorination and the Post Chlorination (Disinfection)
Chlorinator systems. Each system has two (2) vacuum regulators; one (1) duty and
one (1) standby. The vacuum regulators convert the chlorine pressure to a vacuum.
