Chapter 2: The Key Players
internet service, backed by President Trump, is gaining
speed.
WiGig is similar to Wi-Fi except it operates at
astounding speeds. A wider bandwidth is needed so that
new technologies can work without interference with
one another. For example, the radar system in self-
driving cars cannot function safely in a narrow
bandwidth. To prevent this interference, the FCC has
expanded its frequency allocations for vehicle radar.
Would-be 5G wireless providers and device
manufacturers want greater swaths of millimeter wave
(mmWave) spectrum. The FCC has rolled out
drastically new services, using new technologies, in
new frequency bands, under new rules. The
Telecommunications Act of 1996 let anyone enter any
communications business to compete in any market.
The expanding use of radio frequency technology
has resulted in speculation concerning the alleged
“electromagnetic pollution” of the environment. The
health risks of the 5G and the accompanying Wide-Gig
network come from the intense radio frequency
emissions transmitted into the atmosphere. These radio
frequencies could upset the oxygen in our blood by
interfering with the orbital properties of the electrons,
preventing hemoglobins to bind with iron causing a
gradual decline in health. Despite these potential health
risks, they are not enough to deter this new technology.
