Page 3 - Two to Tango Gala At Home Program
P. 3
Six months ago, who would have thought that you would be planning
to watch our annual gala from the comfort of your home? While there
are so many inherent challenges in the current global pandemic, we are
buoyed by the manner in which our organization has adapted to this
“new normal” of connection via technology.
The Discovery Orchestra first entertained the idea of using technology
to reach more people 20 years ago during a visioning exercise with our
Board and staff. We had been producing Discovery Concerts for several
years by then (as the Philharmonic Orchestra of New Jersey), and the
group thought it could be enormously impactful to record one of these
programs for public television. And… in 2002 we did just that! Our
first TV show – Bach to the Future – was the start of our initiative to
produce more digital content. We now happily feature a regular radio
show, a new video and podcast series, more public television shows and
other online content – all helping people to hone their music listening
skills.
However, we never imagined that our annual gala for Discovery
Orchestra patrons might be a digital program as well! In keeping with
our mission, we’ve put together a virtual gala program that features
a music listening segment front and center, with some additional
lighthearted elements for simulated “frosting” and a “cherry on top!”
We thank you for journeying with us – some for many years and
others starting just this evening – as we celebrate our mission and
work in the digital sphere. As our gala title – Two to Tango – suggests,
The Discovery Orchestra cannot fulfill its mission without you… our
partners, friends, fans and donors. Thank you for your incredible
support and belief in our mission of helping people to really connect
with music in enjoyable and profound ways!
