4.7.11 Acoustic Housing
It is becoming increasingly common that
we are required to install acoustic housings
to reduce noise output from coldroom and
air con compressors. These tend to be bulky
as well as expensive and in general have to
be manufactured to suit specific locations,
LA requirements and, of course, the specific
noise characteristics of the equipment to be
quietened, which is usually set out in a plant noise
assessment report compiled by an appropriate
       acoustics, noise and vibration consultant.

There are many suppliers of such housings but
we have had success with using a specialist
supplier called Environ, and it is the Principal
       Contractors responsibility to supply the
necessary acoustic housing for the HVAC and
cold room compressors that are to be installed.

Where HVAC and cold room compressors with
acoustic housings are to be wall mounted,
confirmation must be provided that the wall
construction is suitable to take the increased
load, otherwise additional supports are required
       and must be provided.
