Chinh Nguyên

While Nguyen’s grandma sat on a chair, hold Nguyen in
her arms and looked after Truong running out of the front gate
under the rain. She took a long sigh and said:

“Tomorrow, we do not know what will happen for us...! The
war seemed very close here now...! Nguyen, You did a good
thing today, but from now you do not go over there to watch
them anymore. Because the war will break up anywhere and we
were staying in the danger situation now...!”

                Nguyen looked at his grandma.

“Yes... Grandma. I will be home with you.”

“Oh, I forget... Do not run in the rain. You will fall on the
            muddy and get sick.”

                “Yes...”

                “Good boy...”

One night, Nguyen woke up at midnight and heard the little
sound of the beating, which echoed from the storehouse by a
distance of the long side large backyard. Nguyen got up on the
bed and listens to the strange sound of the beating. He walked
toward the window, opened it slowly and climbed down to the
ground after he had checked around the window area. He
followed his secret exit inside the green enclosure toward the
storehouse by his curiously in the darkness and had a little afraid
of Viet-Minh soldiers that they will catch him then beat him.

A few weeks ago, Nguyen and his friend neighbor had crept
into the storehouse from the big dog-hole that he opened a little
wide under the foot wall. They were hiding Nguyen's
grandparent, and play games in the storehouse then sleep on the
dry grass until his grandpa called him. Again, Nguyen crept into
the storehouse in the same way he was before with his curiosity
