Grades 7-12 are required to have 400 minutes of physical education every 10 days.
The Physical Education program in the ninth grade will assist students in designing their own fitness programs. Students will gain an understanding of mechanical principles and the effects of exercise on the body. During each unit, students will develop interpersonal skills while engaged in some competitive activities. Activities may include: self-defense, aquatics, flag or touch football, circuit training, volleyball, basketball, cross-country, soccer, softball, dancing, knowledge of CPR and health-related physical fitness tests. Warm-up and exercise activities involve specific strands dealing with strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness.
For high school youths the three overarching content standards are as follows: Standard 1) Students demonstrate knowledge of and competency in motor skills, movement patterns, and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2) Students achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstrating knowledge of fitness concepts, principles, and strategies. 3) Students demonstrate knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity. Students who do not meet the standard for 5 of 6 areas may not exercise their option to invoke the two-year exemption. They must take physical education in grade 10 and in subsequent grades until they meet the standard for 5 of 6 areas.

Students will make value judgments about their own well- being. They will design future plans for incorporating fitness and sports in their daily lives to improve health and combat stress. Activities may include: circuit training, football, racquet sports, scuba, lifesaving and CPR, self-defense, volleyball, soccer, tumbling, dancing, and basketball, warm- up and exercise activities involve specific strands dealing with building strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness.
