COURSE: YOGA
COURSE CODE: PYP1
PREREQUISITE: Complete P.E. 9
Grades 7-12 are required to have 400 minutes of physical education every 10 days.
This course will provide students with the knowledge and skill sets to achieve balance in all aspects of the health spectrum (social, mental/emotional, and physical). Students will be engaged in rigorous physical activity through performing safe and accessible yoga postures. Students will learn the proper structure, alignment, and actions for each posture. With the routine practice of these postures students will gain muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and coordination. Students will also learn and practice basic breathing and relaxation techniques. Students will learn how to appreciate and care for their bodies. They will learn modifications for injury management or illness. The content is designed to help students elevate their body awareness in order to maintain overall good health.
COURSE: TRIATHLON TRAINING YEAR COURSE: 10 credits COURSE CODE: PTPA1 GRADES: 9, 10, 11, 12

PREREQUISITE: Swim 100 meters without touching the side or the bottom of the pool.
Grades 7-12 are required to have 400 minutes of physical education every 10 days.
Students will be engaged in rigorous physical activity through performing a variety of exercises. Students will learn proper technique and be coached on form in a variety of activities, including swimming, running, cycling, strength training, and nutrition. With the routine practice of these exercises students will gain muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and coordination. Students will learn how to appreciate and care for their bodies. They will learn modifications for injury management or illness. The content is designed to help students elevate their body awareness and improve their knowledge and strength in order to maintain overall good health. Students will develop an appreciation for what a healthy body composition provides for optimal daily living. The value of this course to provide students with relevant and applicable content to help them transition from the physical education instructional program to a healthy and physically active adulthood.

The objective of this course is to equip students with the knowledge and skill sets to achieve balance in all aspects of the health spectrum (social, mental/emotional, and physical). Student will alternate between swimming and core body conditioning on a daily basis. Along with the workouts students will work on
Developing lifelong wellness habits such as stretching routines, eating habits, relaxation techniques (to help eliminate stress), and daily scheduling techniques to help balance one’s life. This class will focus on both the body and the mind to create a better well rounded individual.
