The University of Minnesota’s hazelnut breeding program has now iden fied about a dozen genotypes that we believe have poten al as a commercially viable crop. One of the priori es of the CLC Ag and Energy Center is to promote agricultural literacy. One of the ways we strive to
professionals, farmers, community members, and legislators. Other events include the Upsala Ag Day, Sebeka Ag in
achieve this is through reaching out to the community and the surrounding area through events. Groups that we
interact with include local Staples-Motley students (K-12), CLC Hor culture students, student interns, industry

Annual Field Day This event takes place every year in conjunc on with the Staples Railroad Days at the end of August. This event showcases the various research projects and connects community members, legislators, researchers, and area farmers. There were 225 par cipants that a ended in 2019. During lunch, the Ag and Energy Center was awarded by the Minnesota Department of Ag the MN Water Quality Cer fica on. This year areas of topics included water quality, sunflower research, edible bean produc on, and fencing demonstra ons instructed by Kent Solberg with SFA and Crow Wing River
