Page 69 - Countering Trinitarian Arguments With Historical Reference
P. 69
Trinity doctrine it seeks to support, for those who lack an elementary knowledge of Hebrew language, this argument can be rather puzzling.
The word echad in the Hebrew language functions in precisely the same manner as the word "one" does in the English language. In the English language it can be said, "These ten books constitute one encyclopedia set." or alternatively "I have one book alone on my desk." Using these two examples, it is easy to see how the English word "One" can mean either many things in one, as in the case of the one encyclopedia set, or one book alone. What Trinitarians do is play a shell game with this and other terms. They don’t tell you the whole story.
Although the Hebrew word echad functions in the same manner, Trinitarians will never at first offer Biblical examples where the word echad means one alone. Thus, by only presenting Scriptural verses such as Genesis 1:5 and Numbers 23:13, it creates the illusion to the novice that the word echad is some how synonymous with a compound- unity or plurality. Then they will try to convince the novice that the one God is really a compound unity. Nothing, of course, could be further from the truth. For example, - Deuteronomy 17:6 reads: "At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death: but at the mouth of one (echad) witnesses he shall not be put to death. Ecclesiastes 4:8-" There is one (echad) alone,..." Deuteronomy 6:4-" Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one (echad) LORD:"
In the above three verses the exact same Hebrew word echad is used and clearly the word echad is referring to one alone, not a compound-unity or multiple gods.
Deuteronomy 6:4 is not talking about a group of Gods, a compound-unity co-existing together in one Family unit Godhead or like the mythical gods of Mount Olympus. Deuteronomy 4:35; 39 and 32:39 prove that Deuteronomy 6:4 is talking about only one God alone. There are not two, three or more Gods. There is no Tri-unity. Moses who is believed to be the inspired author of Deuteronomy and the seventy Elders of Israel spoke to and saw only One God that manifest himself to them! A single Theophany God alone appeared. Three Gods did not appear to them. See Exodus 3:13-18 and Exodus 24:9-11.
“Unto thee it was showed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him.”- Deuteronomy 4:35.
“Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.”- Deuteronomy 4:39.
“See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.”- Deuteronomy 32:39.
