The answer came in one word: baptism.
Several days passed in earnest prayer and detailed study on baptism before Woletehiwot shared a new scrip tural understanding with her family. "We are following the tradition of men and we fear people. The word teaches immersion so we are not baptized right by sprinkling."
While the others felt hesitant and fearful. Mamma Elfenesh said, "If it is my Lord's command, I will notonly be baptized in water, but even in fire."
On their return, they went to the Finnish Pentecostal church for a communion service. The missionary in charge asked, "Have you been baptized?" When they answered no, he wanted to baptize them in the titles. Theyfelt com pelled to refuse, and they never returned.
Though Tekle and Erkenesh felt responsibility for the work in Awasa, the Lord impressed them to go to Addis and assist the Wendells for a time. They invited their friends Solomon and Teshome to discuss the Scrip tures at Brother Wendell's house. They brought along Teshome's friend Amare. Later when they went to the river to baptize the three men. Brother Wendell insisted that Tekle do the baptizing, even though he stood in the water with them.
