ILT Scholarships
The Invercargill Licensing Trust Ter ary Educa on Scholarship Programme was introduced in 2007. It was designed to select up to 60 Invercargill students each year, who receive a scholarship to a end a Ter ary Educa on Ins tu on. Each scholarship is to a value of $2000.00 per year and is granted for a three year period, so in any one year, up to 180 Invercargill students can hold ILT scholarships.
Congratula ons to the following students from Southland Boys’ High School who are 2018 recipients: Joshua Burne , Daniel Cocker, Luke Connell, William Murrell, Timothy Price, Maru Raea, Will Scully, Flynn Sinclair, Kenneth Singleton, Timothy Smith.
Elman and Alfred Poole Scholarships
Elman is a son of the late Philip Poole, who was part of the early se ler Poole family from England
and a well-known cabinetmaker and musician in Invercargill in the 1920s. Elman studied at Southland Boys’ High School and the University of Otago, from which he graduated with a degree in Medicine in 1944. Elman specialised in Neurology with scholarships at Oxford University and posts in London at the Ins tute of Psychiatry and the Na onal Hospital for Nervous Diseases. A er a Rockefeller Fellowship to the Mayo Clinic, he returned to the Radcli e In rmary in Oxford where he has now re red. His brother Alfred also quali ed in medicine and played an important part in healthcare in Invercargill.
These pres gious scholarships were established by Dr Elman Poole in 2013.
